Mens Health

Welcome, men! I want to take this time to talk directly to you. So often, diet information comes to you only through your wives, partners, or your doctors, or even through TV ads and the like. But it shouldn’t be that way. You are the only one who can really take charge of your health, weight and balance.

So here’s the deal: people are different, and no one diet is right for everyone. It’s important for you to know your body type in order to find a way of eating and working out that is right for you.

In some ways, men suffer even more than women from the “one size fits all” diet mentality. For example, men may be told by their doctors that they need to cut back on meat and eggs and increase their carbohydrates.

That may be right for some men, but for other men, it simply doesn’t work. You need to know your body type in order to know what kind of diet will be most helpful and give you the fit, healthy body you want to have.

What Is The Body Type System?

Dr. Elliot Abravanel developed the Body Type System in his medical practice over thirty years ago. He identified 4 basic body types based on the four major glands which control the body’s metabolism.

Each of these four glands has its job to do in the body producing hormones – powerful biochemical substances – that affect the entire body. Your dominant gland determines your Body Type as follows:

  1. Thyroid
  2. Adrenal
  3. Gonadal (ovaries – women only)
  4. Pituitary

Each body type requires a particular kind of nutrition, exercise and supplement program to function at its peak. Once you understand the way your body works, you can begin to control the cravings, eating binges and other behaviours that keep you from achieving your ideal weight, fitness level, increased energy, health and vitality.

Do men have the same body types as women?

Yes and no. If you’ve looked at the weight loss page, you’ve seen that there are four body types in women.

They are the Pituitary, Thyroid, Adrenal and Gonadal Type.

But in men there are just three body types: Pituitary, Thyroid and Adrenal. Why is there no male Gonadal Type, you might wonder? Well, of course, the gonads, also called the sex glands, are different in women and men. In women they are the ovaries. In men, they are the testes. In women, the Gonadal Type is dominated by her ovaries. But all men are very influenced by their testes.

Testosterone and other hormones that come from the testes are what make you different from women, with stronger muscles, heavier bones, facial hair and so on. So in a sense, ALL men are male Gonadal Types. That’s why there’s no ONE male G-Type. You are all G-types. But you also have differences.

So there are three separate body types in men: the thyroid, pituitary and adrenal types.

What are men’s body types?

The easiest way to think of the three male body types is to think of which sport you are most suited to.

If you’re a football type of guy, built strongly, with a barrel chest and maybe a little bit of a beer belly, you could be an Adrenal Type. If you’d do better at basketball than football–if you’re long-legged, long-armed, and skinny (or used to be), and if your extra pounds are more “love handles” than beer belly, you might be a Thyroid Type.

If you’re more suited to gymnastics or a sport like running, or if you’re well-coordinated but not very muscular, you might be a Pituitary Type.

It’s very important to know which body type you are!

Statistics show that 63% of Australians are overweight or obese. Typical diets and weight loss plans don’t work for most people because they are not customised.

The Body Type System, developed by Dr. Elliot Abravanel M. D., goes far beyond weight loss alone. “It is a lifetime nutritional and fitness plan that creates harmony and balance within your system. It teaches you to lose weight, target your trouble spots, achieve your body shape, boost your energy, eliminate food cravings, attain glowing skin and anti-aging benefits, feel better than you ever thought possible and close your body’s “windows of vulnerability.”

Other Health Conditions That May Benefit From The Body Type System Are:

  • Digestive problems – sluggishness, bloating, etc
  • Underweight problems
  • Sleep issues
  • Tired or exhaustive states
  •  Mood / Nervous system problems e.g stress, etc
  • Elevated cholesterol and blood pressure
  • Fluctuations in blood sugar levels
  • Run down and constantly getting sick
